Transferring information off of computer?

I have several computers that I want to consolidate with regard to their information. One is an old Compaq, circa 1996, and I'm wondering if there is an easy way to do this ie. copying profile, etc. The Compaq has a usb 1 port. The others are newer computers running windows 98 and xp. If someone could give me step by step instructions I would greatly appreciate it. I'm trying to do it without simply opening and searching through all folders.....I know I would overlook something. Thanks in advance for any help you might provide.
