Camcorder Question PLEASE HELP!?

Okay, so I have a Canon ZR300 camcorder. Kinda old, but it has really good video quality and it's a great camcorder. Recently I got a new desktop computer, and it didn't have a firewire port, which I have to have to use my ZR300 with it. So I went on amazon and got a firewire PCI card. I set it up, and it said It installed drivers for the camcorder and the PCI card. But now, for some reason, my computer won't even detect that my camera is connected! I need help please!
